Tom Hryvniak recently joined Habitat for Humanity of Ontario County (HFHOC) as Volunteer Coordinator. Tom, an AmeriCorps member, is dedicating his yearlong volunteer service to the memory of his recently passed parents who taught him to value community service and civic engagement.
As Volunteer Coordinator, Hryvniak will oversee the scheduling, development and appreciation of volunteers engaged with HFHOC’s mission of building homes, communities and hope. In addition, Tom will focus on community outreach to recruit new volunteers, provide skills training, and increase Habitat’s
capacity to serve local families.
“We are very excited to have Tom join our team at HFHOC”, said Nash Bock, Executive Director. “His background in community organizing and sense of civic responsibility make him ideally qualified to manage and grow our volunteer programs.”
Hryvniak’s background is in community development, urban planning and environmental advocacy. He has held positions at R.I.T., Buffalo/Niagara Riverkeeper, Buffalo’s City Council, and was the Publisher of the Buffalo Gazzette – a community development newspaper. He volunteers with numerous civic groups; organized the Great Genesee Gorge Clean Up; and serves on the Board of the Friends of Washington Grove. Tom holds a BA from Buffalo State, and attended Hunter College as a graduate student.
